um seriously not good eats

Allrightythen!!!!! So, my wife likes to try new things and the owner of this establishment came in to Cindy’s family store Kitchen Kneads.  They had invited Cindy to try them out.  So, we were out and about and it was getting lunch time – and we figured – “might be good to try for lunch”  What could it hurt?

Weeeellllll… How do I start? Man, I hate giving bad reviews.

We walk in and there are 4 booths on the side north wall (left side as you enter), and they are the type that even skinny people would have a challenge wedging their bodies in.  They have counter height stools in the line area – so as people are walking in, they are skirting to avoid your bum.  Furthermore, the only tables (6 – 2 tops) were mashed together – and the various government agency employees had pre-occupied them as if they were staking out their claim.

So, lets just say first impressions were a bit skewed – as we were not going to get a chair anytime soon.  Well, guess what?  Good news – the line took forever.  Yep, it was amazing how much time and precision several of their line folks would take in cutting your potato.  I was watching one furry haired counter person take his pairing knife – and measure out the slices – lightly score the potato and then make his plunge into the flesh of the tater.

Now, baked potato’s have a style their own – and when cooked right – they can be amazing with just butter and sour cream. Salted with kosher salt, wrapped in foil and magnafique! This isn’t that joint folks. The counter people – who grab a fresh tater from the sitting pile in the ‘warming’ ovens in the wall – then take the painstakingly slow task to ask you what you would like?

  • Would you like it Traditional, Sliced or Smashed?:  SMASHED!
  • What type would you like?: POT ROAST!
  • $7.00 Sir! WTF?

I know, the price was posted – 3 potatoes for $22.50.  Shocked that I would pay such highway robbery for spuds – I forked over the money – and we found a seat!  That’s right it took us 8 minutes to get through the line, for pre-cooked, pre-portioned food.

I break out my potato package – and I salt, pepper vigorously – and what does it taste like?  Un-Salted Potato’s.  *SIGH*

My Son with his review!

I really do hate paying for food that is bland, lackluster and to top it off – my son’s food – well he complained that it just wasn’t that good.  “this is yucky daddy”  “I don’t have to eat all of it do I?”

I’ll let you be the judge – but for this humble foodie – I cannot give it my recommendation.  Good luck staying in business.  For my money, if you have to have a baked potato – do it justice and make it at home and save yourself $20 bucks or if your going out to eat – go just a little farther down the road to Sonora Grill!  Trust me – They have flavor and Value.

Do you have a different experience with this restaurant? Would you like to share with a item on the menu we missed, or we should give this a second chance? We would love to hear from you… Join the discussion below!
