Allrightythen!!!!! So, my wife likes to try new things and the owner of this establishment came in to Cindy’s family store Kitchen Kneads. They had invited Cindy to try them out. So, we were out and about and it was getting lunch time – and we figured – “might be good to try for lunch” What could it hurt?
Weeeellllll… How do I start? Man, I hate giving bad reviews.
We walk in and there are 4 booths on the side north wall (left side as you enter), and they are the type that even skinny people would have a challenge wedging their bodies in. They have counter height stools in the line area – so as people are walking in, they are skirting to avoid your bum. Furthermore, the only tables (6 – 2 tops) were mashed together – and the various government agency employees had pre-occupied them as if they were staking out their claim.
So, lets just say first impressions were a bit skewed – as we were not going to get a chair anytime soon. Well, guess what? Good news – the line took forever. Yep, it was amazing how much time and precision several of their line folks would take in cutting your potato. I was watching one furry haired counter person take his pairing knife – and measure out the slices – lightly score the potato and then make his plunge into the flesh of the tater.
Now, baked potato’s have a style their own – and when cooked right – they can be amazing with just butter and sour cream. Salted with kosher salt, wrapped in foil and magnafique! This isn’t that joint folks. The counter people – who grab a fresh tater from the sitting pile in the ‘warming’ ovens in the wall – then take the painstakingly slow task to ask you what you would like?
- Would you like it Traditional, Sliced or Smashed?: SMASHED!
- What type would you like?: POT ROAST!
- $7.00 Sir! WTF?
I know, the price was posted – 3 potatoes for $22.50. Shocked that I would pay such highway robbery for spuds – I forked over the money – and we found a seat! That’s right it took us 8 minutes to get through the line, for pre-cooked, pre-portioned food.
I break out my potato package – and I salt, pepper vigorously – and what does it taste like? Un-Salted Potato’s. *SIGH*
I really do hate paying for food that is bland, lackluster and to top it off – my son’s food – well he complained that it just wasn’t that good. “this is yucky daddy” “I don’t have to eat all of it do I?”
I’ll let you be the judge – but for this humble foodie – I cannot give it my recommendation. Good luck staying in business. For my money, if you have to have a baked potato – do it justice and make it at home and save yourself $20 bucks or if your going out to eat – go just a little farther down the road to Sonora Grill! Trust me – They have flavor and Value.
Do you have a different experience with this restaurant? Would you like to share with a item on the menu we missed, or we should give this a second chance? We would love to hear from you… Join the discussion below!

I’m with you – for a restaurant focused on a potatoes and with such fancy (and I’m sure expensive) potato ovens – they should be better. I also thought all the questions they asked were strange and made the process of ordering tedious. It wasn’t crowded when we went but I could see how it could get backed up fast.
The toppings were good and I found myself wishing they were on bread for a sandwhich. From what I can remember the sides were good. I think you’re right, they won’t stay in business.

Janet, thank you for your post! The owner has asked us back to review the establishment for a 2nd time. I look forward to it, to see if there are any improvements.
My wife thought their food was good – not great. As I think Ogden is finding out – that is the general consensus.
Brian
I disagree. I adored thier potatoes! I had thier Pulled Pork Potato today and it was supurb. The wonderful vingarette coleslaw on top of the smoked bbq pork was amazing! I come here alot and haven’t had a potato that was bland. Not everyone likes salt. And if your budget doesn’t fit thier menu then i’m sure Sonora Grill won’t be your next bet either.
Ouch a little harsh? The picture looks like it was when they first opened and a lot has changed since then:) I eat there regularly and have never had an experience like that. Every new business has there ups and downs lol I just had their new Chicken Alfredo potato and i loved it! The chicken, broccoli, and basil went extremely well with the sauce that smothered the whole entree. Definitely not bland or dry. It also sounds like you are treating this fast food restaurant like a gourmet, sit down, table waitor, and tips restaurant. Pretty sure the Sanora Grill is in a completely different ball park-
cookitup – I agree Sonora Grill and Brixton’s are different establishments. Your comments are excellent and I am glad that people who like this are out there – for me, if I am going to pay that much for baked potatoes – I could get something that I prefer and what appeals to my tastes. My wife has asked that we do a 2nd review… I am contemplating – and we will update this if we do.
Smashly – Budget isn’t the question… It’s the matter that potatoes shouldn’t cost $20 and if they do – IMHO it should taste miles better that what I had, and the time it takes to prepare them. If were going for convenience – then the wait staff shouldn’t take eons to cut and prepare it.
Now, you and cookitup have suggested different items – and as suggested – we may have to do a 2nd review. Still contemplating..
Brixton Potato. TOOTING THEIR OWN HORN? BUSTED? Caught in the act posting your own restaurant reviews?
My opinion.
Come on guys have some class. Having your own employees, friends and family, and the questionable co-owners girlfriend Tara ( also a employee) post ratings for you? Seriously?
Sorry for the long list of posters in question.
Owners Jonathan Wright, Tehmina Mian, general manager R.Craig, employee and friends Margaret, Michael W., Darin H and the anonymous name “cookitup” you see on most the restaurant review websites posts who I believe to be most comical of all, the nerdy Erkle type co-owner Jeff Hill and his questionable on and off girlfriend Tara Chandler he allegedly has had for many, many years even why they were both still married write your own reviews for you? SERIOUSLY COME ON? My sympathy to Jeff’s X-wife Delaney and kids.
Your class is in my opinion evident in your restaurants being located across from the oldest strip club district in Ogden, and apparently posting your own reviews and your tasteless, bland food, and the bad, independent, and reliable reviews from this site and others and your every day actions in my opinion. TASTELESS!
Sorry for the poor review guys but I won’t be coming back! It is only fair to let what appears to be evident, be known!
If you want true, honest reviews let the TRUE Independent customers do the posting.
Come on Brixton’s Potato have some honesty and class. Just say’n. My opinion of course.
Hey COOKITUP you are on every review we find on the net. My opinion is you work for or own Brixton’s.
Are we right? You seem to be the only positive poster for Brixton’s.Hey crowd will he come clean or stay silent? What ya think?
I encourage everyone to have a voice… Let’s be clear about who we are and if we are employee’s of the establishment. This is a free voice – If I do a review, it’s going to be strait forward and honest. My review past August was right when it opened.
I may give it a few more months to re-review this establishment until the temp dies down a bit.
I don’t even live in Ogden and cannot comment on Brixtons food or service. My particular comment would be directed toward the complaints about the prices. Unless these potatoes are particularly small $7.00 doesn’t seem unreasonable for something that would fill up the average person. You’d be hard pressed to eat fast food, whether it’s burgers or tacos, etc, and not pay a similar price for an equivalent amount of food. Most people pay $7.00 for fast food that only costs a fraction of that to produce, which is the concept of fast food, and making a profit. Same goes for potatoes. If they have a decent product, I hope they succeed.
Tripped across your review and I would agree with the comments regarding how long it takes to prepare already cooked, and pre-portioned foods and toppings.
I have given this establishment more than a few chances – have actually got a full card to get a free potato on my next visit – and I would have to say the food is OK but Not great… not gross (but I could see how a child would think it was). The employees seem to be a friendly (albeit quirkie) bunch of folks but then again this is Ogden Utah, and having lived here for two years I realize most of US (see included myself so no hate mail) are friendly but quirkie when you really get to know us. I do feel these potato are overpriced so I only go when my wife or someone else suggests it, as for me I feel I get as good a meal going to Wendy’s, getting one of their potatos, a small chili and a small garden salad.. the chili serves as a really good topping over the smashed potato (which is admittedly MUCH SMALLER than Brixton’s) but which is in my opinion cooked about as well most of the time.
I had expected that a place focused on potatoes as its main offering would have cooking them down to a science but I have had the hit and miss experience here of over cooked and under-cooked potatoes about the same as when I try and cook them myself in the microwave!
All in all, if you want something to fill you up – you can get decent food here – but know what you are getting and how much it is going to cost! I’d score them a 6 out of 10, or give them a grade of C+ or B- and the B- would come only when you add in how nice the employees have been when I have been in there.
OH and I called today (8/11/2011) and they STILL don’t have nutritional information on their potatoes available, but I was told to call tomorrow and the manager would be able to find it in the computer!!! So my trainer from the gym won’t let me eat here anymore until they share this information!
I sense a little jealousy..your comments are too personal. Lets criticize the food, not the people..and why are you talking about some kind of relationship between the owner and manager??
JEALOUS is written all over you!
I agree. Wendy’s Potatoes are even better and you can get a Cheeseburger and a drink along with it and still pay far less and get some variety.
For about 30 cents I can pop a spud in at home and put all the home toppings I want on rather than a dry nasty spud out of a TV dinner type tin from Braxton’s for 8 or 9 bucks. WTF!
Although at home you can not watch the strippers from across the street come out in their string bikinis or pasties as they go on their smoke break from the ”lighthouse strip club” like they do across from Braxton’s windows . What a view!
What the hay. Bring the kids. Should be entertaining. NOT!
If you go you will need to bring 4 things. Blinders for your kids and your husband, or missionary, a packet of salt, a packet of pepper and a drink to wash it down. Just come straight on over from the temple. It is a close walk…..
Just say’n!
C’mon, David Roger Barlow of Farr West Outfitters Jerky, you think that it isn’t obvious that you haven’t even eaten here? Funny, we haven’t seen you around. Maybe you should find something better to do with your time than publicly stalk and harass everyone you’ve ever had a relationship with. My suggestion? Get a life. And maybe some professional help.
Just say’n.
Yeah, David, maybe a little jealousy over your ex-wife, Tara? Quit stalking. It’s creepy. And illegal.
My family and I have eaten here many times. It is one of the few original places to eat here in Utah. We think it is delicious. We always get it to go and its hot and filling every time. Just ask for what you would like. I always get extra this or that and they are quite generous with creating whatever you would like to try.
